Constitution & Bylaws

In 2014, the Bylaw of the Canadian Society of Mayflower Descendants (CSMD) was revised to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, which came into force on October 17, 2011. Download the Act.Read the Bylaw.

ARTICLE I

Definition

Section 1. The name of the Society shall be the “Canadian Society of Mayflower Descendants”, hereinafter referred to as the Society

Section 2. The Society is incorporated as a non-profit corporation under the laws of Canada and is entitled to operate in Canada and elsewhere.

ARTICLE II

Objects

Section 1. To perpetuate the memory of the Pilgrims, whose unfailing strength and undying courage, inspired their descendants to travel vast distances to found, settle and populate towns on a new continent; and in so doing were instrumental in the development and history of what became Canada.

Section 2. To educate and inform the public of this part of Canadian history through charitable and educational activities by which means we further our heritage.

Section 3. To build a substantial research library, accessible to the public, to assist Canadians in researching their New England family history.

ARTICLE III

Membership & Governance

Section 1. Membership is open to persons according to the Bylaw of the Society.

Section 2. Governance of the Society shall be vested in the Board of Assistants according to the Bylaw of the Society.
